Tim Sturgeon
About Me
Graphic Designer. Specialising in Branding
and Retail Fashion Graphics

I'm Tim Sturgeon, a London-based graphic designer with over 30 years of experience working across fashion, retail, and brand communication.
For 27 of those years, I was part of the team at Next PLC, one of the UK's most recognised fashion retail brands, where I spent the last decade as Head of Graphic Design. Something I'm particularly proud of is that I designed every single Next Directory cover from the day I joined in 1996. The Directory was a fixture in homes across the country for generations, which means there's a good chance my work sat on your coffee table, or your parents'. Not many designers get to say that.
One of my proudest achievements was leading a full rebrand of the Next identity. This wasn't a cosmetic refresh. It involved a completely new logo, a bespoke typeface designed from scratch, and a new supporting marque created specifically for use on product. Overseeing the rollout of a new identity across a business the size of Next, every touchpoint, every channel, every department, was a daunting undertaking, but ultimately one of the most rewarding things I've done.
Since leaving Next, I've worked independently, with a significant portion of my freelance work carried out in partnership with BDA London. I've also supported specialist recruitment and talent advisory firms, producing polished, presentation-ready materials in PowerPoint. A reminder that great design thinking applies just as much to a boardroom deck as to a brand campaign.
I'm highly proficient in Adobe InDesign and Illustrator, competent in Photoshop, and I actively incorporate AI into my creative workflow, something I find genuinely exciting rather than threatening. I've recently sold illustrations created using Google Gemini, which speaks to my curiosity about where craft and technology meet.
Outside of client work, two Instagram accounts give a sense of who I am beyond the studio. @timsturgeonwork showcases poster design, humour-driven graphics and photography, while @thebikepilgrim follows my other great passion, cycling and travel, seen through a photographer's eye.
What I'm looking for
I'm actively available for freelance projects and consultancy, and open to part-time, contract or even a permanent role if the right opportunity comes along. If you're a fashion or retail brand with something genuinely exciting on the table, I'd love to hear from you.
In three decades of design, I've seen enough trends come and go to know what actually lasts, and I still love the work as much as I ever did.
